The Irish Hills Leprechauns have been introduced as new members of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, the team announced today. The team will play home games at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. The team is a cooperative partnership of the Catholic Baseball Players, Inc. and the Michigan Red Sox Inc.
Mark Sackett, President of the Michigan Red Sox, will take on General Management duties of the Leprechauns. The team will be coached by Dale Gray. Jim DeSana of the Catholic Baseball Players will serve as a managing partner. The Catholic Baseball Players operate the Lake Erie Monarchs in Flat Rock, Michigan, the only Michigan team currently in the Great Lakes League. The Monarchs have been operating since 1999. “The Irish Hills Leprechauns bring summer collegiate baseball to a great area of Michigan” said DeSana. “The small towns & lake communities in and around Adrian deserve this level of baseball”
“We anticipate that the Irish Hills Leprechauns will be a great avenue for college baseball players in Michigan and the Great Lakes region” said Sackett. “We greatly appreciate Siena Heights University for providing their Stadium as our home park for this venture”
Gray, a 28 year resident of Jackson, Michigan has coached in the Monarchs organization for 10 years including coaching the Monarchs #2 team to a runner up finish in the NABF College World Series this past August. “Dale’s coaching experience and his ties to the area will help the team hit the ground running” added Sackett.
